Ferderbar Physical Education


Welcome to Ferderbar Elementary Physical Education

The Ferderbar Elementary Physical Education program focuses on the skills, knowledge and behaviors important to leading a healthful physically active life.  Instructional emphasis is placed on what children need to know and be able to do to safely and successfully participate on their own.  Movement strategies and concepts are a priority.  Movement skills are introduced and practiced in class.  Students are encouraged to use skills outside of class to develop competency.  Students learn skills to effectively work with others through team building and challenge activities.  The importance of fun and enjoyment of physical activity is stressed along with the health benefits.

Instructional Focus

Playground Activities

Students learn activities and games that can be played during recess and free time.

 

Movement Themes

 - Movement Literacy - Students learn basic movement concepts and vocabulary that are the patterns for all movement activities

 - Creative movement/dance - Students apply the basic movement concepts by creating more compled patterns and combinations of movement sequences

 - Social & Folk dance - Students learn a variety of popular social and folk dances to gain an understanding of dance histories and cultures

 

Sports and Games Strategies & Skills

Students learn the basic strategies and skills used in territorial or invasion games

 

Cooperative/Adventure Activities

Students learn the skills of communication, negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution through various small group activities which involve teamwork and physical challenges

 

Bike Safety & Skills

Students learn basic bike handling skills, safety procedures and operating concepts to enhance effective riding

Strategy and Skills Competency

Students demonstrate strategies and skills in a variety of health enhancing lifelong activities and apply these skills with consistency in realistic setting.

 

Plan for the Future

Students develop a plan for regular participation in health-enhancing and personally rewarding lifelong activities outside of the class setting.

 

Participation Outside of School

Students evaluate their participation in health-enhancing lifelong activities outside of the school setting.

 

Personal and Social Behavior

Students demonstrate responsible, personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

 

Working Effectively with Others
